Defining objects, words, people, even history can be very complicated. However, in order to achieve this you need confidence, which is what needs to be defined first in order to progress further. Confidence can be defined as the ability to have complete trust and belief in a person or thing, which can similarly be connected to self esteem; as self esteem is the ability to have confidence in one’s abilities or worth. Although these two terms are not the same they are related in the fact that they are both classified under human characteristics, which is a quality that belongs to an individual. They are not physical human features because they can not physically be seen by others. Instead, they can be noticed by actions or words spoken. For example, an individual has confidence when they raise their hand during a class to answer a question, and does not hesitate to do so. Similarly, this shows how confidence is an overarching topic of self esteem, because without confidence the individual would not have had the self esteem to raise their hand. The individual was able to raise their hand because they had confidence in their abilities to answer the question. Similarly, distrust would not be affiliated with confidence as the definition can be defined as the feeling that someone or something cannot be relied on.
