Throughout the ages, heroism has been defined and redefined by society. Looking at countless quotes and articles spread across the Internet, heroism is defined and redefined again and again, each quote similar, yet different. According to some, heroism is only an act of bravery or courage, while others see it also as small acts of kindness. Soldiers, firefighters, and doctors are often seen as modern day heroes, and they are. However, often overlooked, medics, dads, and even comic book superheroes are real heroes in ways some would not consider. During war time, medics are responsible for caring for the wounded, even during a battle. Having no defense of their own, they rely on the men around them to protect them while they tend to the hurt soldiers. Medics risk their life everyday for the sake of someone else, seeming to become the definition of a hero. However, they are often humble about the act, which could be considered another quality a hero must possess. Steven Spielberg once said, “I don't think that anybody in any war thinks of themselves as a hero. He was strong, brave, and could fix any problem I had. Now, as I look back, I see the human side of him, but he is still a hero. According to Christopher Reeve, who played Super-Man in the late 70s-early 80s productions of the movie “Superman,” “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” This quote could define my father. Faced with many trials throughout his life, he has stayed true to God and our family. There has never been a moment when I questioned my dad’s perseverance or
