When Layla says this, she implies that hope serves as a force that propels individuals to seek freedom from oppressive circumstances. This quote suggests that hope is a form of inner strength that resists the attempts of authorities to control and crush you. Hope provides a lifeline, allowing internees to cling to the belief that there is a possibility of freedom and a chance for a better future beyond the electric fence. In the book “ Just Mercy “ the author Byran Stevenson illustrates how important it is to have hope. Hope is what makes people strong, its faith in the littlest of things, and it brings people together, creating unity. I am Mariah Stephens and I am a Talented and Gifted 7th grader at Walker Mill Middle School and TAG Center in Capitol Heights, Maryland. I am 13 years old and I have been in the TAG program for about 5 years. I do not recall taking the test to get into TAG, but I do remember being accepted in 3rd grade. I was in class one day when someone called me and two or three of my classmates to the door. She handed us envelopes that said we were accepted into TAG.
Hope is alive and can be found in more places than one might expect. In Lisel Mueller’s poem, “Hope”, Mueller uses metaphors to describe hope and show that it can be found in many places. Let’s start with the first stanza. In the first 3 lines of the poem, Mueller describes how hope can sometime “hide” from us. She says that it “(…) hovers in dark corners until the lights are turned on,” showing that hope can seem nowhere to be found sometimes (lines 1-2).
People want to believe that they will survive no matter what and having hope helps with that. These quotes are good examples of hope pushing people till the end. If people don’t have a sense of hope, or something to believe in, their life falls apart. This is proven in the novel Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson which is a story about an African American man named Walter McMillian, a death row inmate, who was falsely accused by a white man of a federal crime but still paid the price. Walter’s lawyer, Bryan Stevenson, didn't stop working until Walter, and over 2,000 other falsely accused death row inmates were released. In Just Mercy hope is a necessity for the overall success in the case, because it reduces the feeling of worthlessness, improves the quality of life, and provides a sense of happiness.
Hope is one of the most powerful forces in human nature. It provides people and families with the courage to move on and gives friends the drive to keep going. Without hope the world would live in despair with no prospect for future endeavors. Hope lights a fire in the hearts of many, and some would even say it starts a rebellion of the mind; longing for a different outcome, and a better tomorrow. I think everyone believes in hope at some point. People believe in hope when they want things to happen like; they hope to do well on a test, they hope to get a job they’ve always wanted.
