Impossible Question Introduction Success can be defined in a multitude of ways. One of the ways that the Merriam-Webster dictionary defines success is, “the attainment of wealth, favor, or power (“Success”).” This definition does not suit most people's definition of success nor does it show how one can ensure that they can be a success. People will normally define success based on personal goals that they want to reach, or things that make them happy. Literature Review In most sources you will find about success will give you the Merriam-Webster definition of success, which says something like success is when you have power, and everything you ever wanted. The time period in that goal is that semester where they want to get all A’s. According to Zahorsky, “goals and objectives just don’t get done when there's no time frame tied to the goal-setting process.” One of the biggest reasons that is true is because people will not have the motivation to reach some goals. Say that someone sets a goal to become a lawyer, and they do not give themselves a time period. The person is not going to be very motivated to reach that goal, and since they do not have that time period they may never reach that goal. But the person who gives themselves a time period of 5 years, they may reach that goal, and they would have been motivated throughout the time period. Another big part to my definition of success is failure. Failure can be a big part in how someone defines success. To me failure helps get me to success, because if someone does not fail, how do they know they are a success. Kegler says that if someone fails, then they know what not to do the next time they try to reach that goal. That is another reason why failure can help someone gain success because things do not come easily, and with failure people will know how to go about trying to reach goals and become successful in a better
