A name is a word or words that address something or someone. In many ways, each person’s name may be significant, unique, special, or different. A name can be personal, or define who a person is, or it can even express their personality. A name can also tell a story or start a conversation with someone. It can show power and strength or have a profound meaning. Unlike most names around the world, my first and middle names are unique, they have meaning, and they have a story behind them.

On Nameberry, it says that “Alec is short for Alexander, but is much fresher sounding than Alex” (nameberry.com). My mother named me Alec as a second middle name after my deceased cousin who was on my mother’s nephew passed away shortly before I was born when he was an infant. My result on babynamewizard.com , was that “the history of Alec is Greek and Scottish” (babynamewizard.com). The meaning of the name Alec in Greek means “protector of men”. The meaning of the name in Scottish is “defender of mankind”. I think Alec was a good choice by my parents because it was after someone they loved, but whom I never got to meet.
The three names, Kolyn, DeShon, and Alec, are unique because of the meanings of each individual name are relevant to me, and the stories behind my name are relevant to not only me but also my family. I think it is very accurate how all of the names line up with who I am and how my life has come to be.
