Home is derived from the word “house” and then further from there the Old English word hām. The word doesn’t mean cooked pig but in reality it is a version of home that translates to a dwelling or enclosed area. When you are home with the one you love you, the gathering of loved are together. In this etymology of the word it further illustrates that home isn’t just a place, it is in those you love. The latin word for home is domus. Domus doesn’t only focus on a place to live, but a place. A place to conquer in someone's heart. Then, further looking into the word home it can also be defined as a place where one flourishes. Some argue that the Merriam-Webster dictionary definition most closely portrays a home. It defines the word as one’s place of residence; the place such as a house or apartment where one lives. The wording gives room to vary the meaning and eventually can derive the true meaning of a home as someone you love. It may be said that home is a location because to get to the real home, the people you love, you have to go to a certain location. But home is more than just a residence or a place that you go to at the end of the day. But in fact going to that certain place isn’t the best way to describe things. I was very upset with the move, but it wasn’t because we were changing houses, it was because I was leaving my friends. I had grown up with so many close people in my life they had become my home. Leaving them was the hardest part. One grows up connecting with people and at the end of the day it doesn’t matter the place you are but who you are with. Moving was leaving my real home, all of my closest friends, that made me feel loved and safe. I wasn’t able to be “home” anymore because my friends were no longer in proximity to me. During the day where I used to spend my time with my friends at school wasn’t going to be the same, and I wasn’t going to have the same comfort that my friends cradled me in. Although I still am able to see those people now, the change was difficult and I had to find my new home through new people I met.
