The Amazon Rainforest covers about 7% of the area of land on the planet but it is home to 50% of all living things on earth. A countless amount of the world’s most endangered and threatened animals live in this rainforest. Billions of people rely on benefits Amazonia offers, including food, vital oxygen, fresh water, clothing, traditional medicine, shelter and homes for people and wildlife. The Amazon forest is front of the line on the fight against global warming providing crucial oxygen. Every day, the entire world relies on the oxygen produced by the Amazon rainforest to survive in our heavily polluted world. The homes of both the wildlife and indigenous people are also torn down separating families and leaving them stranded. But the forest is under threat from deforestation, jeopardizing these benefits. Due to deforestation in the Amazon Rainforest global warming is on the rise, homes for both animals and humans are destroyed, and the list of extinct species continues to grow because animals are killed and separated from their families. This is a major problem and a cause of concern because global warming is a major worldwide problem and the only plausible solution to this is stopping deforestation. With an increased temperature globally, ecosystems are shriveled and the …show more content…
In a report in Nature, the author, Terry Root said: “There is a consistent signal. Animals and plants are being strongly affected by the warming of the globe.” She later said that, “It was really quite a shock, given such a small temperature change. . . If we’re already seeing such dramatic changes among species, it’s really pretty frightening to think what we might see in the next 100 years.” Just as Root explained, the consequences we face today are distressing so it's unimaginable what we will face in the
