One way the nazis dehumanize the Jewish People was that they didn’t recognize them as humans. “There are eighty of you in this car,” the German officer added. “If anyone goes missing, you all will be shot, like dogs”(Wiesel 21) The officers don't recognize them as human but more as “dogs” The officers are treating them like they are less than human which could make the Jewish People believe that they were actually less than human. The opposite of what the officers did would be to recognize that each of the Jewish people was actually human and that they were their own person. They take them from their homes. They strip them of their possessions. They strip them of their individuality. When the jews get to the camp they are sent to a barber to get their heads shaved. They get a number tattooed into them. They lose their names. The nazis make them all look alike taking away their individuality. Too add on, many times throughout the book you see that the nazis take the jews rights away. (Wiesel 41) They take them from their homes, take everything they own, take away their individuality, force them to run, beat them, starve them, and torture them. All of these acts are against all of the jews rights and taking them away dehumanizes them because they have no rights just like objects. The jews start to believe that they are less than human because they can’t do anything independently. The only way to humanize someone after an experience like that would be to give them their independence back, to let them make their own choices about their life and what they do. Another way the nazis take away the jews independence is they take all of their possessions. (Wiesel 28) They take away everything that makes them unique. They make all of them alike in every way. With no possessions and no unique characteristics the jews believe they are less than human. To humanize them you would give them back possessions and make them unique and create diversity and not
