In the short story"Aha Moment" author's Julia Alvarez plane is struck by lightening and one of the plane's engine is badly damaged. If I was in Julia Alvarz place, i will immediately sit in my seat and fasten seat belt. I will stay calm and optimistic and will urge other people to do the samething. Furthermore, i will listen carefully to the announcemnets made by the crew and pilot and will act accordingly. If a nerby passenger is in the need of assistance due to illness or discomfort, i will try my best to help and sort out his/her problem.
Oh God, my chest is coming apart(Paulsen 11)”. Brian had soon realized the pilot was dying but he knew that was coming since the pilot had been complaining about his pain. Brian did not know CPR so he
This scenario reminds us that although something is dangerous, or unnecessary, doesn’t mean it is wrong to do. This scenario was all about having the courage, bravery, and empathy that makes one a good person towards
As he rises, he points to a member of the crowd, holding a sawed-off shotgun, and tells him to go home, that there was no place there for those who wish harm on another. Then, with his church no more than a pile of blazing rubble, with electrical wires sparking everywhere, he begins to give a sermon.
The author appeals to his audience’s emotion when writing this sermon. Specifically, he targets
You can feel the adrenaline thrusting through your veins as if a goliath was hammering your heart. The blood flowing to your brain causes you to have a crippling headache, the doors open to the lone darkness. The bright lights cause your sight to derail into an epileptic sprawl, the next time you open your eyes the man below is bleeding to death, gasping for any air or hope that might be left. He’s lost half his limbs and most of his blood, his bloody hand on your sleeve loses its strained grip and you seem him lose all faith in his soul. This man died in an accident caused from him not stopping for an incoming train, believing he could beat it.
In addition, the brilliant ending of the speech casted a strong impression on the people. He quoted a phrase from the poem “High Flight” written by John Magee, “…to touch the face of God.” It leads the audience into viewing the positive outcome of the accident and gives the speech its
Many passengers tried covering the hole and others called for help with a satellite phone. Six long hours later, help from the Italian coast guard came. Everybody on board survived due to the steadfast thinking of the passengers. When they saw the hole, they could have just said “we're done for” and given up, but they kept trying to think of solutions to save everyone on board. Hundreds of thousands of migrants have the same perseverance to keep trying for a better life by moving to different countries where equal rights and a better life exist.
Someone will die!’ ... I 'm shaking in every part of my body… I want to run and hide… Surely now they are shooting the stars from the sky!... I am so frightened and filled with grief that I can hardly breathe"(Staples,224-225).
The 911 Conspiracy On the morning of September 9th, 2000, a shocking event, which would be remembered by the world, even 15 years later, occurred. 4 passenger airlines ----specifically, American Airlines Flight 11, United Airlines Flight 175, American Airlines Flight 77 and United Airlines Flight 93---- were hijacked by Al-Qaeda terrorists, and were respectively flown into the North and South towers of the World Trade Center, and the Pentagon in a suicide attack. Fortunately, Flight 93 which was initially planned to crash into Washington, D.C., was overtaken in a brave move by the passengers, and was crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. This is the event which struck the Firefighting and Law Enforcement agencies, with the former receiving 343 casualties, and the latter receiving 72.
The woman, and the other passengers were enjoying their game of throwing coins. They were completely untouched by the “natives’” suffering. This is the kind of inner monstrosity mankind fancies itself not to have, but it’s there
In this essay, we will be discussing the historical context of The Outsiders. The time period when this book was being written was when the United States was increasing its activity in Vietnam, and the civil rights movement was gaining momentum, and the Beats movement of the 1950s was transitioning into the hippie movement of the 1960s. But yet not one of these political and social movements was referenced in the book. The focus of the novel is instead on class and the way it affects these specific teenagers. When the United States were getting involved in the Vietnam war, they were afraid that communism would have spread to South Vietnam and the rest of Asia.
In the nonfiction article by Lane Wallace, “Is Survival Selfish”, she experienced different reactions that came from other people in an unanticipated crash. “ I remember reading the account of one woman who was in an airliner that crashed on landing. People were frozen or screaming, but nobody was moving toward the emergency exits, even as smoke began to fill the cabin.” (Wallace 2). Therefore, this quote indicates that the people that were on the ship were really frightened and thought their lives were coming to an end.
Such understanding is a reminder that the preacher is an unworthy vessel being
As the plane was landing in Boston Logan Airport, I looked out the window at the sparkling gold ocean below, and the city lit up by brilliant lights; I was full of nervous expectation! I pushed my luggage through the gate; I couldn’t believe the day I had dreamt of for so long had arrived. When I was a kid, I used to watch my classmate’s parents come to pick them up from school, and I would
