Delta Sigma Theta Reflection

Delta Sigma Theta was introduced to me at a time in my life where I was approaching womanhood. It was at this time when I was a part of Delta Academy and Delta GEMS that It was at first hand that I saw the hard work and dedication that they put into the community. Delta Sigma Theta in so many of its aspects enriches not only the African-American community but the community as a whole. The women who were apart of these educational programs laid the foundation of what a successful woman in the 21st century thinks and acts like. A place every year within Delta Academy and Delta GEMS that we would always volunteer at was “My Sisters House” which is a homeless shelter for women and children. This experience was very impactful, within each year I saw what problems people faced and I saw people at their worst times, which made me grateful for the family I have and gave me the drive to reach out more into my community. Within this program, I had learned the importance of leadership when it comes to achieving goals, also to expand my cultural experiences through various workshops and events. An experience I had with this program that I will never forget was when we went on a college tour. Having to experience different colleges on the tour it helped me broaden my horizons and ultimately helped me with my college decision. As an organization of predominately African American women, Delta Sigma Theta is distinctively positioned to impact not only the well-being of its members but also the well-being of families and communities at large. With all the skills that has been instilled in me from these programs I have become a young woman who has become dedicated to her community and has developed not only leadership skills but as well as organizational skills
