One of the greatest public servants known to mankind is Myrlie Evers-Williams. Mrs. Evers-Williams embodies what it means to be a woman of conviction and virtue. Her tireless effort to correct injustices and empower others is something I aspire to do. When examining today’s society, you find that young people are faced with a multitude of challenges, particularly young people of color. Our education system is failing, our children are falling behind, our men are being profiled, our families are broken, and our communities are suffering. I believe that it is going to take a collaborative and holistic approach to change these trends. This mission is something I am passionate about and determined to see through. Although I did not know much about your sorority at the age of twelve years old, I saw something much more than a good deed. I witnessed the compassion and empathy from members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated when a family experienced a tragedy and lost everything they had in a house fire. The project was Habitat for Humanity. The love shown to that family and the symbolism of sisterhood was incredible. I want to be part of and add to that. Moreover, I have attempted to live my life in the same manner. At an early age, I learned the importance of academic excellence, integrity, leadership, and community service. My goals here at Alcorn include a BS in Elementary Education. I believe that this will help me give back to my community, improve my school district and become a better, well-rounded
