After completing the reading of, “The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe”, I have come to the conclusion that the narrator is suffering from psychotic episodes. The narrator starts off immediately advising us that “the disease had sharpened his senses” (Poe 41). This immediately makes me believe that there is some type of mental illness that the narrator is dealing with such as schizophrenia and delusional disorders. We see how the narrator starts to question and find logic in the reasoning for being angry. At the same time the narrator shows us that they are extremely nervous but cannot seem to find the words for reasoning of why they are feeling this way. When my grandmother was alive and dealing with this battle, she was adamant that everything any type of food that my family gave to her was nothing but poison. She developed this theory inside of her head that we were out to get her and that the only thing we wanted to do was kill her. I use to sometimes hear these battles when sitting next to my grandmother. One minute she would be positive and the next she was talking to the voices in her head and became extremely belligerent about the things that people were doing to her. All everyone wanted to do was help her get better because no one wants to see anyone they love in such a bad mental state. Sadly, in the end, the demons eventually won her over and her delusions caused her to stop eating, in which caused her to have a stroke. No matter how hard we tried to get her the help she needed or the best medicine, the demons ended up winning the battle just as the narrator’s demons overpowered
