80 million people died during world war 2. Lord of the flies took place during world war; Lord of the Flies, an award winning novel starts with a boy named Ralph picking himself up after their plane crashed into a deserted island. Ralph finds a conch shell and blows it to gather everyone together. After the blow, all of the survivors begin to crawl out of the jungle. There was a vote that decided who would be in charge, Ralph won because of his good looks and he called the meeting in the first place. Ralph tries to create order and assigns people tasks so that they can survive. Another boy, named Jack, becomes jealous because he can not in control the island and attempts to do all he can to gain power. Athens greece was one of the world first democracy and pioneered a new government, the democracy. A democracy is seen today and a more enlightened political system. On the other hand the Spartans were a textbook example of a militaristic dictatorship. The Spartans abducted children from their homes to start training at the early age of five. The goal, to turn these children into fighting machines by trade. For Athens a symbol was a scaled of justice. The scale of justice represents the key part of a democracy a way to check and balance people’s power. Sparta’s Symbol of their dictatorship would be one of their signature shields that represent strength and courage. The symbol represents democracy in Lord of the Flies is the conch shell. The shell is first found by Piggy and Ralph. Piggy states, “S’right its a shell”(Golding 10). This occurs when piggy found the shell and gave it to Ralph, and so a democracy was born.
