Lord of the flies took place during world war; Lord of the Flies, an award winning novel starts with a boy named Ralph picking himself up after their plane crashed into a deserted island. Ralph finds a conch shell and blows it to gather everyone together. After the blow, all of the survivors begin to crawl out of the jungle. There was a vote that decided who would be in charge, Ralph won because of his good looks and he called the meeting in the first place. Athens greece was one of the world first democracy and pioneered a new government, the democracy. A democracy is seen today and a more enlightened political system. On the other hand the Spartans were a textbook example of a militaristic dictatorship. The Spartans abducted children from their homes to start training at the early age of five. The goal, to turn these children into fighting machines by trade. For Athens a symbol was a scaled of justice. The scale of justice represents the key part of a democracy a way to check and balance people’s power. Sparta’s Symbol of their dictatorship would be one of their signature shields that represent strength and courage. The symbol represents democracy in Lord of the Flies is the conch shell.
