Four million Americans are currently wearing braces, that will soon have straight teeth. It is orthodontists that allow people to have straight teeth and that make patients confident in their smile. Orthodontist’s look at patient's teeth and determine the path that will be taken to allow them to have the perfect teeth that everyone dreams about. Orthodontic assistants put braces on, do regular checkups, change wires and fix any complications that the patients have. Orthodontic assistant are more independent, and do more work than dental assistants do.

I love volunteering because even though you don't get money for helping someone, you get the joy and happiness of knowing you did something good for someone else. Being a member of Key Club and Junior Optimist I have the opportunity to volunteer frequently in the community and to the school. I have volunteered to work in various booths at the Glandorf Park Fest. I helped work at the YMCA Trunk or Treat to pass out candy to the little kids on Halloween. A group of my friends went over to Kalida to help with the Triathlon.
My favorite act of service that I have ever done was through the school’s project based learning. I had heard that the NWC Men’s Basketball Team was building a house a Haitian family who’s house had collapsed with all their belongings. I then contacted the men’s basketball coach asking if my group and I could raise money to buy items for their house. We organized a traditional bake sale, as well as an online bake sale, to raise money for the family. In the midst of baking 40 dozen cookies and 38 dozen cupcakes, I was coordinating with a missionary in Haiti, Krisie Mompremier, who knew what the family needed most.
I am an active member in our community. I volunteer every month, at least once a month. One of the organizations that I volunteer at is Spoonful of Hope. This organization dedicated to feeding those who were, and still are feeling the effects of hurricane Sandy. They also give food to those who are hungry and in need of a decent meal in our community.

Being a Dental Assistant Dental Assistants can help change a person’s life in many ways. Dental assistants provide their patients a way to stay healthy within oral activities while also providing general happiness to a patient. Assistants work hand in hand with a dental hygienist observing, supporting, and caring for the patients need, whenever they need them. They work with tools, sit and stand long periods per day, and work in one of the dirtiest places on the human body, the mouth (Summary). Dental Assistants practice safety measures, just like any other doctor would, to assure the safety of themselves, along with the safety of their patients and organs that are being worked on from infectious diseases.
A dental assistant is defined as a health professional who works closely with and under the supervision of a dentist. They assist the dentist during certain procedures as well as meet with patients. A couple of other job duties they preform are preparing the room for the patient, sterilizing and disinfecting equipment, and providing and laying out instruments for the patient’s procedure. Almost all dental assistants work in Dentist’s offices. Other jobs are Pharmacy Technicians, Physical Therapy Assistants and Aides, Surgical Technologists, and Medical Assistants.
I believe my practical experience and what I’ve learned during my six years as a dental assistant at Plainview Oral sets me apart from other students. Not only for the dental skills that I have acquired, but also for the kindness and care that I have demonstrated, when working with patients in real life situations. Many patients have thanked me for my professional bedside manner both before, during, and after surgery. I also assisted patients with disabilities, and was able to exhibit a patient and positive attitude when working with them. Hands-on skills such as taking impressions, radiographs, and making night guards will help me thrive in dental school.
For dental assisting traits you need a good personality, good dedication, being a good listener and being a reliable employee. The education you would need for being a dental assistant would only take 2 years. It could also only take up a short 9 months for being a dental assistant. My personality traits would be just great for this career.
