There are behaviors that are linked to people who are likely to commit suicide; an example is feeling isolated, lack purpose, burden on the world. These behaviors might be able to be heard when the firefighter is talk about them specifically or referencing these in a certain way. The next item DeGryse brings up is actually statistics that the Chicago Fire Department has on their own record. Others can use this data to prevent and educate other firefighters about this behavior and symptoms that may occur. A highly useful tool is knowing risking factors from within and from the outside, this could benefit when preventing suicide and help determine if the firefighter is wanting to commit suicide. In addition, having warning signs associated with the general population and the fire service individuals, educating firefighters and families can these topics can save a life. Finally, this manual covers additional ways to use to prevent firefighters from committing suicide.
