Krik? Krak!, displays the raw healing power that Haitians have to endure and push forward. In this series of short stories, there’s not a single boring story within Krik Krak all stories vary, creating unique people to intrigue readers to look deeper past the general horrors and see that the fear of being consumed by their overwhelmed sense of depression is far greater. Krik Krak takes place in Haiti’s borders. Edwidge’s Krik Krak carries sad tales of unique Haitian people who experience the harsh realities of life under different circumstances. In the book, Krik Krak, a series of short stories, the author Danticat utilizes juxtaposition to successfully create unique characters that in return constructs the overall sense of depression. The specific examples that best portray the feeling of depression are a depressed father, a conflicted daughter, and another daughter whose mother was wrongfully accused and imprisoned. In the beginning of the book, the short story “A Wall of Fire Rising” Guy, a father and a husband who is always depressed but reading further a reader can infer that there’s more than one reason as to why. The attack of the macoutes and being separated from the male writer has created a sense of depression for her whether it was the fact that she is no longer safe or that her love was taken from
