Topic: Depression disorder in female youths ages 12-17 Depression disorder is a form of mental illness which affects everyone, it can happen anytime from childhood to late adulthood and it is classified under “Mood [affective] disorders” according to ICD-10 (WHO, 1992; WHO, 2017). Normal and short lasting stress and sadness deal in everyday life is not considered as a depression disorder (WHO, 2017). Depression is a treatable illness and it often have a long lasting negative effect on a person’s thought, act and feelings by causing loss of interests, fatigue and persistent sadness in a person (NIMH, 2017). WHO states that depression is also a “leading cause of disability worldwide and it is a major contributor to the overall global burden of disease.” (WHO, 2017, p. 2). Also, Neitzke (2016) suggest that the high prevalence of depression among youths are caused by family risk, behavioural, psychosocial and environmental factors (Agerup et al., 2015; Neitzke, 2015). Furthermore, depression affects everyone of all age, but targeting female youth 12 to 17 years old for effective prevention and treatment are important because depression can continue throughout adulthood and continue to worsen as a person age (Agerup et al., 2015). Yang (2018) and her colleagues stated that nonadaptive changes in brain circuits can lead to depression. The most important region of the brain that links to depressive disorder is the Lateral Habenula (LHb), LHb regulates a person’s sleep, addiction, pain, anxiety and depression levels. Yang(2018) suggest that if LHb is suppressed, depressive symptoms will arise. To further explain that, evidence from non human and human studies also shows that abnormal LHb activity is related to depressive symptoms such as feelings of negative and worthless. So, with better regulation of LHb in the brain, it can reduce depressive symptoms from occurring (Yang et al.,
