The Life of Derek Jeter Derek Jeter was and still is one of the greats in the MLB. Jeter had many rewards like rookie of the year. He also had 3,465 hits ranked at number six in MLB History. Jeter has not only a great life, but career lets me tell you all about it. First off Derek Jeter was born in Pequannock, New Jersey June 26, 1974. His father wanted a Ph.D. in Psychology. So they moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan when Jeter was 4. When Jeter was about seven, he decided he was going to be a Yankee. In high school, Jeter was about six feet three inches tall, he was tall and lanky this made so Jeter could play basketball. But he still wanted to be a shortstop for the Yankees. In high school, Jeter was one of the best. He batted a .500 with one strikeout in his senior year. This made Jeter the starting shortstop. In the 1996 season, his first full season of Major League Baseball. He batted a .314 with ten home runs. He then showed off his skill in the world series to help the Yankees beat the Braves in the world series; he was pronounced Rookie of The Year. In the year 2000 Jeter was the first player in history to be named MVP of both The World Series and the All-Star Game. In 2001 he crushed a home run in the tenth to beat the Diamondbacks in game four of the world series. In 2003 he was named the captain of the New York Yankees. That season he suffered his first significant injury. He separated his shoulder after colliding with another player. He was out for a while but came back good as new and got 1 of five gold glove rewards. In 2011 he homered for his 3,000th. In 2013 he announced he would retire after the 2014 season. His last at-bat in his home stadium Jeter hit in a winning run. And that ended his career as possibly the Yankees best player in baseball
