Throughout Japan's history, China continually influenced Japan's government. The Japanese emperor adopted many characteristics from the Chinese bureaucracy. This included the use of different titles, ranks, and official roles. Japan's constitution was influenced by the Chinese because it promoted a more organized and centralized government. China was a very successful empire, so Japan wanted to use their ideas to help their government flourish.

In the 19th century china and japan were under pressure when the west opened up foreign trade and relations. The industrial revolution created a wide gap between them and the west and left them behind in technology and the military. They both signed unequal treaties that forced them to open their ports and cities to foreign merchants. Both country's reacted very differently and this will be the topic of this essay.
During the period between 1450 and 1750, European traders started to get more involved in Chinas and Japan's politics. One similarity between China and Japan in their relations with European traders is that in both countries european traders were welcomed at first, however the relationship soon turned sour. In China, the Qing dynasty sold limited trading privileges to European powers but confined them only to Guangzhou. The British was not satisfied with this arrangement, so they asked for more trading rights. As a result, In a letter to King George III Emperor Qianlong states that the chinese had no need for British products.
In particular, “Japan now has the second largest economy.. [and] Taiwan has the largest per capita foreign reserves in the world”. (Biggart 199) The advancement of these countries has long been noted and studied by Hamilton, Biggart and Saxenian. Their research has led to differing approaches in understanding these countries but the ideas they used to understand the development of these countries have fundamental similarities.
With their need for natural resources, they believed that Asian countries should become one, and they thought that they would “together get better.” with Japans power hungry ideals they seized control of Areas of China which they remained in control from 1937 until their defeat in world war 2. As wars were being fought over land in the Asian countries, Japan was running out of materials. They knew they needed to take control of more land so they were able to hold strong against their enemies. Their issue was that once America got involved Japan would be destroyed.
The societies of Tokugawa Japan (c.1603-1867C.E.) and medieval Europe (c.1000-1500C.E.) had two things in common; a feudal system. A feudal system is something that features hierarchies or social structures. The feudal system normally starts with a religion, which is at the very top of the social pyramid, then it’s the King or monarch for Europe and the shogun for Japan, then there are the nobles for Europe and the daimyos for Japan. As we go down the pyramid there are the warriors, like the knight in Europe and the samurai in Japan, then there are the peasants. The peasants were included in both eras and are at the lowest part of the pyramid.
After trade was cut off with Japan, it was thought that it would stop Japan’s expansion, and everything would return to normal. The opposite happened. The trade being cut off led Japan to hold their ground,
Upon the fall of the preceding dynasty, the Ch’in dynasty, the Han dynasty arose with an extremely powerful general, who held all of the power of an emperor, Hsiang Yu. [i] He separated the Western Han into many different areas, and used devoted generals from both the Han and Ch’in dynasty (provided they showed allegiance to the Han Dynasty) to rule.[ii] In 202 B.C, general (or wang, as all generals were called) Liu Bang overthrew General Hsiang Yu, and was declared emperor, and renamed Kao Tsu[iii]. Due to the many responsibilities he carried as general and the very large amount of land there was to be governed, so Kao Tsu shared the responsibilities of emperor with family members and trusted appointees, as well as the multitude of military commanders while keeping the title of emperor all to himself.[iv] Unlike many other cultures, the Han dynasty appointed and held many leaders from lower classes as emperors or generals, who managed to come into power with brains, potential, and charm.
Another non-factor was access to natural resources. China and Europe both had effectively equal access to extremely similar natural resources throughout their respective developments.
When China's influences took place with both Korea and Japan, the practices created similar/different societies using the same techniques. China had strong ties with Japan and Korea due to regional trading; it's apparent that the Chinese culture had a significant impression upon the cultures of both

Australia and China are two very different countries with an almost polar opposite government structure, political systems and values. Australia is a constitutional monarchy whereas China is a single communist party state. It is arguable as to which system of government is more effective, considering it is involves other factors like social freedom, the quality of life and the economy. But comparing hand in hand, Australia’s system of government has proven to be more effective in all of these areas. Australia and China have many similarities yet differ greatly in political structure.
