The first song UNCG sang was “Personett Sonnet” by Lara Hoggard. All of the choirs sang this song as one while entering the church, which made their entrance a lot more interesting and formal. This was actually one of my favorites, because all of their voices combined was very powerful and they sounded like one. For as many people as there was singing, they had nice diction and I could understand a lot of what they were saying. However, because there were so many people, some consonants, specifically the ‘S’ weren’t together as well as they could have been. They had a nice dynamic contrast, which made the song interesting and made me want to keep listening. Overall, I really enjoyed this song and thought that the choirs did a very wonderful job. The second song sung was “There is Faint Music” by Dan Forrest. The choir had very good blend and balance, I could hear every part when I tried. Their dynamics were not the best, I feel like they should’ve exaggerated them a lot more. They sounded like one voice and they did a very good job. This got better as the song went on. They needed to enunciate more, I could not understand what they were singing. At the beginning the sopranos were overpowering the rest of the group, I couldn’t hear the altos very well. During this song, they were not holding, music, which I thought made up for the lack of energy, because it made it seem more “personal” if that makes sense.
