1. Romeo: Can I leave while my heart wants to stay here? I have to go to where my heart is.
2. Romeo moves away. Benvolio and Mercutio enter.
3. Benvolio: Romeo, my cousin Romeo!
4. Mercutio: He’s smart. I bet he went home and went to bed.
5. Benvolio: He ran by this way and jumper over the orchard wall. Call for him Mercutio.
6. Mercutio: I’ll conjure too. Romeo! Humorous, madman, passion, lover! Show yourself with a sigh. Speak one rhyme and I’ll be satisfied. Cry out “Ah me!” But just say “love” and “dove.” Say one word to my friend Venus. Say the Cupid the nickname of her blind son, the one who shot arrows so well in the old story. – Romeo doesn’t hear me at all. He doesn’t stir or move. The silly ape is dead. I must make him appear. –

Romeo: I am not sure how to tell you who I am by telling you a name. I hate my name. Dear saint because, my name is your enemy. If I had my name written down, I would tear it up the paper.
21. Juliet: I have not heard you tell me a hundred words yet, but I do recognize the sound of your voice. Aren’t you Romeo and a Montague?
22. Romeo: I am none of those things if you don’t like them.
23. Juliet: Tell me how you got in here and why did you come? The orchard walls are hard to climb because they are high. If any of my family sees you they will kill you because of who you are.
24. Romeo: I flew over the walls with the light wings of love. Stone walls can’t keep love out. Whatever a man in love could possibly do, love will help him do it. So your family is no obstacle.
25. Juliet: If and when they see you they will surely murder you.
26. Romeo: One angry look from you is so much worse than twenty of your family members with swords. Look at me kindly, I’m invincible against their hatred.
27. Juliet: I would give anything to keep them from seeing you out here.
28. Romeo: The dark will hide me from them. If you don’t love me, then they can find me here. I’d rather be dead than live without your

Juliet: Don’t even swear by the moon. The moon always changes. Every month it moves in the sky. I don’t want you to turn out to be that inconsistent.
34. Romeo: What can I swear by then?
35. Juliet: Do not swear at all. If you do have to swear, swear by yourself which is wonderful. Which god I worship like an idol and I’ll believe you.
36. Romeo: If my heart’s dear love—
37. Juliet: Well don’t swear. Although you bring me joy. I won’t take joy in this exchange of promises tonight. It’s too crazy. We haven’t done enough thinking I think. It is way to sudden and too much like lightning which flashes and then disappears before you can say “it’s lightning in the sky.” My sweet goodnight our love which right now is like a flower bud in the summer air. It may turn out to be a pretty flower the next time we meet. I hope you enjoy the same rest and peace that I feel in my heart.
38. Romeo: You are going to leave me so unsatisfied?
39. Juliet: What satisfaction could you have tonight?
40. Romeo: I would be more satisfied if we made promises of true love.
41. Juliet: I will give you my love before you ask me too. But, I wish I could take the promise back so, I could give it
