The night sky. A vast, endless, and unknown universe beyond the human eye. A whole new world. A universe that is waiting to be discovered. Looking up into the night sky, I am welcomed by countless stars, constellations, and the moon. For me, the starry night sky is a time of comfort and peace. Away from the city, I am greeted by a sight I usually do not get to view quite often. The serenity and quietness of the nearby trees swaying in the gentle breeze, and the sound of crickets in the night. These precious moments that I get to steal away from the business of the city allows me time to think. The night sky grants me time to reflect on my life; yet, a time to set dreams for the future. This past summer, I was given the opportunity to attend Camp Kateri Tekakwitha for the sixth time. A camp that I long for each and every summer because it provides a time of renewal, faith, and comfort. Camp Tekakwitha is located in the rolling prairies of Williamsburg, Kansas, about an hour away from Kansas City. As I look out the window during the drive, I see the transition from the busy and traffic-filled city to the quiet and peaceful countryside. A whole world filled with incredible wonders such as the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, and the Northern Lights. Yet creation extends beyond what humans can see. A new and unknown universe waiting to be explored lies beyond what we perceive as the "world". Sometimes, I find myself forgetting the beauty of creation. Each day, I see trees, birds, and other humans; however, I fail to remember its beauty. I fail to remember that it is God's creation. However, it is through creation that I can come to remember nature's beauty and to rediscover myself.
