In the hot sunny month of July a team of 30 youth ventured out to a city, which was basically being held together by a Band-Aid. Ultimately, a city that was supposed to be the next Brooklyn, New York, took a downhill spill. Now a city known for riots and worn down graffiti walls is trying to regain itself. Thirty youth who now have the aspiring intention to rip off the Band-Aid. The hope is will they be able to make an impact? In the view of my perspective, I imagined Detroit as a town where eight mile was located. Thugs and gangsters, who walk around wearing their glamorous gold dollar chains, look obnoxious and intimidating. I visualized rude people who could give a care in the world. We trimmed the grass, picked up numerous bags of filthy trash and severed down trees. I was observing around me that day watching my back in case someone would come up from behind and jump me. I was judging the people that lived in these homes wondering why they could not get out and pick up the trash in their yard of trim their bushes. All of a sudden a poor widow old lady approached our group and handed us some juice and pop appreciating us for what we have done to her neighborhood. We thanked her and enjoyed the drinks as sweat beads were dripping down our faces. As a final point people do not realize how much greatness is underneath a pile of rust and dirt. The world thinks that once a person or place hits rock bottom that there is no regaining back hope to restore yourself or that town. It was that moment when the poor widow lady brought us drinks that I realized it is not about how beautiful a person or neighborhood looks but it is about what is underneath the
