“Ouch!,” Drew yelled as he was thrown against the lockers; his books tumbled everywhere. The school jock, Brandon, didn’t even look back as he raced past Drew, high fiving his friends while trying to catch up to his girlfriend, Sarah, in the busy hallway of Blind Brook High School. No one even bothered to look at Drew as his books, and his body, flailed to the ground. Quickly, not trying to draw attention, Drew scrambled up his belongings and ran to his next class. After stepping in the door and settling down, Drew dazed off as thoughts flew through his mind.

Why doesn’t anyone bother to even look at me? Do I really mean that little to everyone?

Wrapped up in his own lonely thoughts and love for Sarah, Drew didn’t even realize that class was almost finished. Before he knew it the bell rang and the school day was over. As Drew walked down the hallway, people poured out of the school doors endlessly. His arms swished back and forth, in stride with his feet, as he walked down the halls towards room 137. Book club meeting was soon to be in session and Drew knew, as President, that he couldn’t be late. After rounding the corner towards the very familiar classroom that he went to twice a week, something felt different. The air felt thinner; the ground felt harder. Drew took a stutter step backwards as he turned the final corner 12 stopped in his tracks. Standing directly in front of him was Sarah and Brandon, discussing something with their voices at a low roar. A variety of facial expressions were thrown left and right, leading Drew to the conclusion that the “schools most perfect couple,” was fighting. Deciding to postpone his duties as book club president for the moment, Drew slid behind a pillar, blocking himself from all incoming views. Silence filled the halls of the ever so noisy Blind Brook High School as Brandon and Sarah stopped
