The American Man, Age Ninety-Three Martin “Mart” Geelhoed was a man that could define what it means to live a full life. Throughout his 94 years of life Mart impacted hundreds of people and blessed them all with his passion and drive. Mart was an incredibly hard worker. He grew up as a farmer and earned everything he ever got. I can just picture him working in the fields as a boy and a young man, his lean 6’ frame leaning on a shovel as the sun sets in the background, his skin gleaming from a day of basking in the powerful ultraviolet rays. I can see him digging in the fields at the height of the day, his massive hands gliding along his shovel as he effortlessly transferred piles of loose soil from the hole he was digging into the rusted wheelbarrow …show more content…

It just serves as proof that Mart was completely devoted to serving Christ and honoring the Bible. One day, Mart was on the front porch reading the Bible. His elderly eyes slowly paced back and forth across the pages, scanning the words. The same eyes that had years of exposure (and probably damage) to the sun, and the same eyes that gazed upon acres of lush farmland nearly 80 years ago. They drifted across the pages, absorbing the Word. Without him even saying a word, I knew that Mart was preparing to meet his maker, and for him, that thought brought him more joy than anything on Earth ever could, or ever would. It was hard when Mart died. He affected so many people in some many positive ways, and his legacy was filled with pride, honor, joy, and love. His funeral was more of a celebration of his life, which he lived to the fullest, all 94 years of it, than a grievance of loss. Of course, everyone wished he could be back, but everyone knew he was with his Father in heaven, probably plowing fields. For me, Mart taught me to work hard in life, so when the final horn blows in life, I will have no regrets. He never actually came out to say this, but he didn’t have to. It was all too obvious. Mart lived a life of passion, dedication, and love, and I would ask for nothing more than to live mine the same
