When looking for a stand-out restaurant in Athens, Georgia, the first that many say comes to mind is the world renowned Cali N Tito’s. I have heard others rave about this place countless times, which left me wondering, what could possibly make this place so special? It was not until I experienced Cali N Tito’s for myself that I finally understood what made it so appealing. Other reviews have relentlessly persuaded and coaxed me to try a meal there. When I first entered the establishment, I immediately noticed all the lights and upbeat music, providing a welcoming disposition. Once I spent more time analyzing the site, the tack walls, t-shirts hanging on a clothesline, and advertisements of local South American businesses caught my eye. These surroundings felt as if I was transported to a South American country. The atmosphere in its entirety was very basic, yet endearing. The informality made me feel at home; relaxed and comfortable. The half cut out coffee mugs above the wooden tables, the BYOB policy, and the parrot cage outside only added to the charm. The cash-only aspect may leave some skeptical, but I personally felt a sense of informality and a laid-back vibe. The employees seemed like family due to their warm smiles and pride in serving you great creations. This aspect of Cali N Tito’s is representative of Athens itself because as a new student, I have already felt welcome and a part of the family.
