Chatswood Park is located at 35 Orchard Road, Chatswood in the greater New South Wales Region. It covers an area of approximately 2.6 hectares. The open space consists of public toilets, a fenced playground with many shaded park trees, equipment for exercise, a skate park, picnic sites and is topped off with mosaic murals which were designed by Sally Portnoy. The park was named after the Chatswood estate of the late Richard Hayes. The vast land that it is now was acquired in 1898 and further acquisition was made in the earlier years of 1900. The park was officially opened in 2001 and later refurbished in 2008. The sun was out, shining but not scorching, the wind was a bit brisk, but I could attribute this to the enveloping trees on either side of the pathway. The humidity was normal. All these factors combined made the day’s temperature pleasant and in overall the day looked promising. The sky was a little cloudy but nothing to show an impending rainfall. The light breeze inside the park was different from the hot air outside. On entering the park, I immediately felt calm and relaxed devoid of the anxieties I felt while at the park’s entrance. At the entrance, there was the usual ruckus associated with parents trying to hold down their children, who were filled with unabated expectations, the noise of the passing vehicles and the voice of park attendants trying to direct the park visitors. After a few steps, the noise dissipates in the background, and I was welcomed with the laughter and murmurs of jolly children and their parents. On top of the trees were birds chirping a synchronized tone, the leaves bellowing a deep hum against the wind and the crumbling of the dead leaves as I stepped on them. At the far end of the park, I could make out the faint cheers of a few spectators as they watched the rugby team
