I was awoken by a violent rumbling. My work desk shook like a building during an earthquake and woke me up in the process. Not fully aware of what had caused the disturbance, my eyes darted around the dark room, eventually landing on the vibrating phone next to a large pile of rented textbooks and overdue novels. Picking up the phone, a familiar pair of brightly colored circles accompanied by dainty arrows met my gaze. I grunt, “A phone call.” I slide the green button to the left. A whisper escapes from the small speakers, “Hey. You up?” “What do you think Mark,” I respond drowsily. “It’s an emergency. Something’s up with the cite.” “Nothing is wrong with the cite. After unlocking my laptop and entering the password, I am greeted by a picture of me, Mark, and the other member of our group, Susan, with our backs against a sunset. I can hear Mark drumming his fingers through the phone as I open my internet browser and type in the URL for the project that will get us through University. I slam the ENTER key with confidence for the second time tonight and despair at what shows up on my monitor. “The backups are gone too,” says Mark. I bring the phone to my mouth. “Does Sue know about this,” I ask. Mark just keeps on tapping. After a long period of silence, he says, “She won’t pick up her phone.” I hang up and race towards and out of the door, not caring to lock it. A few flights of stairs and several hallways later, I arrive at Susan’s dorm room, panting and out of breath. I frantically knock on the door and hear soft footsteps on the other side.
