Antonio has been given choices in life and it's up to destiny to decide what he is going to do. Bless Me Ultima, written by Rudolfo Anaya is a coming of age novel. A little boy named Antonio has two completely different parents, they have different cultures and want different thing for Antonio. Antonio's parents fight about his destiny when Ultima, a magical person, comes to live with them for the summer. He starts to get interested with the magical world. There is three paths in his life: the mothers path, the fathers path and Ultimas path. He soon realizes that no one can choose your destiny and destiny comes by itself. First of all, Antonio develops the theme, no one can choose your destiny for you, destiny chooses itself. One example of this is when Antonio has his dreams about his future. Antonio has a dream of the llano, which is were the father would like Antonio to roam free when he is older. “In my dreams I flew over the rolling hills of the llano ” (Anaya p. 5). On page 4, he tells us about his mother's dream, “her own dream was that I should grow up and become a priest.” this shows theme because even though his mother's dream was for him to become a priest he made his own destiny.
