In the mid-1940s, the harsh weather conditions in North America caused a lot of destruction, and turned fields into snow covered grounds. Crops were wiped out, trees were fallen on the roads, and number of houses were destroyed. Lack of food and resources caused a number of deaths as the families struggled just to survive. Jamie Wyeth explained struggle of a family in her painting La Boheme. Her painting portrays love of a couple, and how they are trying to comfort each other right after the storm has ended. The dark skies where all one can see is snow flurries, a small house in the back with a huge snow covered tree leaning towards it, the couple under the tree are holding close to each other are feeling secure. Everything is so quiet. The storm has passed leaving behind the signs of destruction. The couple is relieved after everything has ended. In Wyeth’s painting La Boheme, the couple standing outside in the snow looks like they are from affluent families. The man has shoulder length hair with his face covered with facial hair. Looking at the couple, one can easily depict that they have been through a bad period of time. Their faces looks sad and relieved, which explains the story that how they survived under one roof for a long period of time with limited food or any other resources. Their expressions are full of meaning and emotions. From outside they look relieved but they are heartbroken from inside.
