Destruction stories are needed as a reminder of the importance of balance in your life. The destruction in these stories doesn’t just emphasize on the collapse but highlights the rebirth. The stories of destruction in, Ovid’s Metamorphosis, Genesis story each represent the resilience of the human race in dire circumstances. These destruction stories are needed as a reminder of human’s resourcefulness and that acting out without regards for others is only going to bring shame on you but will lift up those that you are damaging. In Ovid’s story of destruction Jupiter is upset with humans and believes that they all should be eliminated. The Gods only accept humans as long as they are beneficial and not an annoyance. Jupiter’s intentions are vile, he wants to destroy all humans. Deucallion and Pyrrha’s survival is not because Jupiter wanted them to live but because of their prayers to Themis. This story shows that sometimes in life we need change but we shouldn’t force it upon somebody. Destruction is a chance to forge new relationships like how in Genesis God and Noah form an agreement allowing Man to now eat meat, God accepts man for who he is even though he doesn’t agree with his actions. These stories shine a light on the fact that some things are just out of your control. In Ovid’s destruction story Jupiter’s anger is out of hand, he acts without thinking.
