The United States is a nation filled with people of different ethnic groups and backgrounds. According to a U.S. Census report collected through 2009-2013, over 60 million people in the U.S. speak a language other than English at home (“Detailed Languages Spoken at Home”). Although English is a common language shared by millions of Americans, it is not the official language or the only widely spoken language in North America (“The World Factbook: United States”). Language is the manner people communicate and express their opinions and preferences. There are approximately 37 million people who speak Spanish and Spanish creole, almost 11 million people who speak an Indo-European language like French, Italian, and Portuguese, and over 9 million people who speak an Asian and Pacific Island language in the United States (“Detailed Languages Spoken at Home”). People may carry shame and face ostracism if they are not understood or assisted due to a language barrier. For the people entering a new land, their native language is a way of life, part of their history, and identity. Therefore, native languages should be preserved, shared and not forgotten for the sake of integrating into new environments. The neglect of foreign languages and their speakers is the equivalency as enforcing the invisibility of these families. Students who are not fluent in English can receive translations. They can have the confidence and knowledge to pursue a career. Students can be given an opportunity to develop into productive members of society that contribute ideas, creations, and advancements for areas such as literature and STEM (Krilanovich 5). English-speaking students and bilingual students can benefit from the presence of foreign languages at their school as well. Employers who prefer bilingual employees to maintain and increase their customers and clients. The consideration for foreign speakers in education settings can support and serve the future of American society. American businesses can benefit from incorporating foreign languages in their services. When adjusting to an increasingly diverse population, businesses should appeal to more than English-speakers to maintain and grow their clientele. The products and services of businesses can reach a wider audience if they support the popular foreign languages used in their communities. The introduction and usage of foreign languages in their business’ values and plans would build financial stability and community
