The book that was read in class was ‘Runner’ by Robert Newton. It was based in the year 1919 in Richmond which is a poor suburb in Melbourne. It is about a boy named Charlie Feehan who is only fourteen years old. He lives with his Ma and little brother Jack. Charlie and his family aren’t very wealthy.
In the poem, “Becoming and Going: An Oldsmobile Story” by Gerald Hill the speaker is traveling down a road in the Fort Qu’appelle Valley. He notices his father and his son are also driving down this road. The speaker then begins to list the two men’s characteristics. As he lists them we see that the father and the son have both similarities and differences in their personalities.
Maturing in life. At the beginning of life, people are innocent, with life not having a chance to tamper and corrupt them. At the end of life, they 've known loss and heartbreak and life has messed them up. But imagine if people were born all knowing and died as innocent as a baby.
A major theme in the true story, A Long Walk to Water, by Linda Sue Park is perseverance. Perseverance is to stay steady in what you are doing or in a purpose, especially when you are faced with difficulties. This is a perfect theme for A Long Walk to Water because the main character, Salva Dut, an 11 year old Sudanese boy, faced many difficulties and kept going. He took things ‘bit by bit, one step at a time’, a lesson he learned from his uncle that helped him get through the desert, and he applied it to his life and kept going and believing his family was alive. Even though he almost died many times, he did not give up, and he went back to his home country and helped many people have better lives by building wells and giving them clean drinking water.
B: Australians are used to thinking that a journey is physical but they never think that the journey could be a spiritual one. In Jackie French’s 1993 novel, ‘Walking the Boundaries’ Martin, the main character, goes on a physical and spiritual journey where he learns about his family’s past and the importance of looking after the land. A: Thesis Statement: Jackie French uses third person narrative, an obvious plot and descriptive language to intrigue and engage the reader to see the physical and spiritual journey that Martin goes on.

Martin comes to walk the boundaries of the farm that has been in his family for generations. It sounds easy especially because he’ll own the land when he gets back. The following maxim means that one should not succumb to what society wants you to be but instead, one should follow their own path. A universal theme relating to this maxim can be perceived as human beings should follow their own way, mindset, or their sense of intuitive feeling. First, the image of Parvana digging up graves represents the theme of determination because even though she doesn’t like to dig bones with the other boys, she does it anyway because she wants to earn money for her family. She is determined to earn more money so that she would be able to run around the market earning more money for her loving family.
