The Devastating Kidnapping of Charles Lindbergh Jr.
On a dark and peaceful night, something unthinkable happened. Charles Lindbergh Jr. was kidnapped from his houseand no one suspected a thing. Charles Augustus Lindbergh, Jr. son of the famous aviator Charles Lindbergh and Anne Morrow Lindbergh was kidnapped on March 1, 1932, between 8-10 p.m. near Hopewell, New Jersey. Around 10 p.m. the child was discovered gone and after looking around they found a $50,000 ransom note, traces of mud were found on the nursery floor and two sections of the ladder that had been used to reach the window. According to the PBS documentary, “He didn't trust the police and used his enormous influence to control them and the investigation. He even kept the ransom notes and negotiations with the kidnappers secret.” This means that he is being very secretive about the ransom notes and he would control them and the invesitgation. This is not normal because he wanted to find his son then he would let the police help with some of it. Furthermore as stated in Rutgersedu, “What we know about Lindbergh’s character,” Gardner says, “is his desire to spread his healthy genes and his belief in the eugenics movement” This proves that he was part of the kidnapping team becasue he was part of the eugenics movement. That means that he was perfect and he wanted all of his family to be perfect too. Charles Lindbergh Jr. had Rickets so his legs were not perfect. Since he was not perfect Charles Lindbergh seemed like he was ashamed of his kid because he would never be a “healthy” man.
