Dexter Morgan is the protagonist in the Showtime series Dexter, he plays a blood spatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department who also leads a secret life as a serial killer. He was orphaned by the age of three; his mother was brutally murdered in a shipping container, and now must learn to cope with this dark secret of his past. Dexter, played by Michael C. Hall, was adopted by Miami Policeman, Harry Morgan after being found in the shipping container sitting in a pool of his mother’s blood. Harry recognized Dexter’s homicidal tendencies and raised him to be smart and to channel his dreadful passion for human dissection in a “constructive” way. Fan, Lucia Grosaru, writes an article of reasons why the world has fallen in love with Dexter Morgan’s character, logically she says it may be because of “The ‘normality’ factor, or maybe the fact that we understand addiction and compulsion, also Dexter having a troubled childhood, or even Dexter’s rationalizations, and his anti-social behavior.” Dexter’s character, according to Lucia Grosaru, has many human factors that allowed for viewer encouragement, and belief of what a good person he is, she states that “Dexter Morgan, is just an average guy that struggles to have a normal life, be part of a normal family and have a nice couple life, trying to deal with all the drama in his past and actual life and plays an overall positive social role.” His character is so well played out, balancing his double life that to a certain point as the audience watches, it’s almost like the brain reformulates itself. There is a belief that Dexter is not doing anything wrong by killing these criminals, and is in fact making the world a better place.
