The Lumbee community is unqualified for federal Indian Health Service benefits, this cause them to get general health care at a federal subsidized community health center or those who have resources get health insurance through private insurer. The greater part of the population are poor , therefore will limit their chances for treatment. To dominate this marginalization, they outshine in political, social and economic domain. Culturally they still uphold their own land and cultural symbols. Jacob, et.al (2014) The Lumbee do have their belief and personal opinion on diabetes. Given the high prevalence of diabetes among the Native Indians, Alaska America and the Lumbee Indian of North Carolina, there had been some interventions like, support tribal intervention in effort and fully funding for IHS that will help to provide a good geographical risk of the problem which will encourage community base research. The purpose of this paper is to implement education outreach programs that will help the people in the rural community of Robeson County to manage diabetes. The education outreach on healthy eating is focus in developing the strength of farming that they already have to better handle diabetes. With this approach they will not have to spend additional money to buy vegetables form the market. Poor dieting, low income and lack of exercise is blamed for high rate of diabetes among the Lumbee community. Jacobs, et.al (2014). The idea is to be able to educate the individuals on how to manage diabetes through healthy eating and increase awareness on the effects of the disease. The outreach program is to teach the native ways to cultivate more non starchy vegetables like celery, beans, cucumbers, broccoli, and carrots than starchy vegetable like potatoes, corn and peas that contain more carbohydrate as they are already famers. We expect that eating more vegetables will help by reducing the sugar naturally. We will provide free glucose meters and strip to the individuals with diabetes to be able to measure their A1C level. We intend that this measurement will be done every two to three month to be able to determine their average blood level. According to the America diabetes association, the A1C level of diabetes patient is good to measure because it helps professionals to know how oxygen flow into the blood cells and also help to indicate the amount of sugar stick in the red blood cell (RBC).
