According to the text, “Fundamentals of Case Management Practice: Skills for the Human Services,” DSM –Diagnostic and Statistical Manual Disorders is a “collection of diagnoses of mental disorders accompanied by the typical behaviors and symptoms a professional might see in a particular diagnose.” Practitioner can use this benchmark as a common standard for each mental disorder when diagnosing their clients with similar symptoms and behavior patterns regardless of where they are being treated or who is seeing them. Examples: Mood disorder, Anxiety disorder, and Dissociative disorder. The next component is the diagnostic criteria sets; these sets represent all symptoms present and for how long. Not only that, this is where the professional will find or list all other symptoms, disorders, and conditions that been ruled out to meet the requirements for a particular diagnosis.
