In the Merriam-Webster dictionary, dialect is defined as a regional variety of language distinguished by features of vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation from other regional varieties and constituting together with them a single language. Dialect is everywhere, even if it is not brought to light. Two people from two different parts of the world can be speaking the same language but still sound completely different. This is because of dialect. Dialect can vary depending based on what part of the world you live in or the origin, or history behind where the way you speak came from. Because of this wide variety of people, there are many different dialects. Dialect is very important part of American English because it is what makes the language so different than other parts of the world. There is so much history behind each and every dialect making them all different from one another. Two people from two different parts of the world can be speaking the same language but still sound completely different. Even with dialect that may only relate to the smallest part of the country is so unique in its own way. Then there are more well known dialects like that of New York. Coming from the Yiddish and making its way to the United States, New York dialect is well know because of its unique origin, the many influences that helped create the dialect, and how it is perceived by others. Famous role models like Mel Brooks, Woody Allen, Rodney Dangerfield, George Burns, Don Rickles played major role in defining the New York City accent and making it so well known. Also, there are many perceptions and theories behind dialect. For example, there is the scientific side of it that states that it is because of how our brain processes the different ways of speech which makes us automatically discriminate.
