Theme 1.1: Envy. In Knowles’s coming of age book, “A Separate Peace”, there are lots of mishaps that happen and the beginning of these mishaps is when one of his main characters, Gene, starts thinking malicious things about Phineas, his friend. It started out as a small inkling of envy, suddenly later on in the book, it turned into something that resembled a fractious disaster. As the chapters progress, Gene shows the readers his way of thinking towards Phineas, by describing his “unexpected excitement” (27) when Phineas was about to receive a scolding from Mr. Patch-Wither, the substitute headmaster of Devon during the summer session. As the sun rises on the Great Plains, the rays gently touch Iktomi’s eyes, waking him up. Iktomi is dressed the part of a Lakota Brave, but inside he does not act the part of a Lakota Brave. He is a trickster; self-absorbed, vain and dishonest, eventually driving away any friendly smile come to be his friend. Navigating the Plains alone, he has become an outcast and constantly makes silly decisions further adding to his infamous reputation.
In the book Crescendo there are lots of twists and turns. In the story Nora is hanging out with Scott more and more. Patch tries to warn her that something is going to happen. Since the archangels are watching Nora and Patch closely, they can’t talk to each other out in the open. Patch figures out how to talk to Nora in her dream.
Lois Lowry uses foreshadowing in "The Giver" to build suspense and depth in the story. Foreshadowing occurs early on in the book when Jonas sees the pilot flying overhead, and later learns that the pilot was released. This foreshadows the darker aspects of the community rules and hints at the potential consequences for those who don't come to conform. When the giver tells Jonas about the previous receiver of memory receiver who failed the training and was released. This hints at the possibility of Jonas failing his training and being subjected to the same fate as Rosemary.
The very first page of this book we are presented with a letter from Alex, who is obviously leaving home. The letter I believed was a really cool way to give us the background of the story we needed to know on a personal level. This was our first look at Alex. He seems excited to be out in the Alaskan bush. Not too many people would be excited about that.

“The worst part of holding the memories is not the pain. It 's the loneliness of it. Memories need to be shared” (Lowry 154). This quote from The Giver by Lois Lowry is an example of how the protagonist, Jonas, thought he lived in an ideal society until he got his Assignment, which was really his career. In his career he got all of the memories of the past, before his community decided to change the way they lived their lives and performed their daily functions.
Additional information about the character I would like to know is more about Mrs.Mallard and her husband. I want to know what kind of a person he was and what kind of person Mrs.Mallard was as well. I would also like more information on the setting such as where the characters are and their surroundings. I believe that Chopin does not provide this information because she wants the reader to just be focused on the death of Brently Mallard and not all the other components of a story. I would say that the fact that the story is economical is a strength.
Literary Analysis: The Giver Imagine a world where everything seems perfect but truly it is not as pleasant as it appears. In The Giver by Lois Lowry shows us a community in the future with no feelings at all. Jonas a twelve year old boy knows his life as it is and one evening he learns the truth about the community. Jonas set’s off into a adventure to change it all. Character,conflict,and symbolism makes the reader see thru the eyes of a twelve year old in a place of slavery disguised without anyone knowing it.

One memory change that. Jonas saw the Giver’s favorite memory. The memory was about Christmas. It showed love, warmth, and grandparents. At the end of the book Jonas became affectionate.
