The artist I chose for my biography is “Diana Ross” as she has always been one of my favorite artists’, and she has inspired many through her soulful melodies. Diana Ross is an African American woman who was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan on March 26, 1944. Ross started singing in the choir at the local Olivet Baptist church, which led to her meeting Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard. At that specific time the manager of the doo-wop band 'The Primes', Milton Jenkins enlisted Ross in the sister group 'The Primettes'. Diana Ross had a natural gift for singing and started singing when she was a teenager, and later became a part of “The Supremes” in 1959. 'The Supremes' began to become famous during 1961 after the group’s member Florence Ballard agreed to the new moniker when the group signed to Motown records. Barbara Martin made the group a trio when she left in 1962, which made Ross the lead singer in 1963. Diana Ross continued on to make many hit song’s with “The Supremes”, but ended up leaving the group in 1969. In May of 1970 after Ross left “The Supremes” she became a star with the release of her debut solo album 'Diana Ross', which displayed the singles 'Reach Out and Touch Somebody', and 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough'. Ross won her first Best Pop Vocal Performance Grammy with the song “Aint No Mountain High
