Optimism- the belief that good ultimately predominates over evil in the world. The play, The Diary of Anne Frank, was written by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett. The story is about a young girl living in the Holocaust after going into hiding with her family and others. They go into hiding in the annex above Otto Frank’s office building, located in Amsterdam, Holland. The only way this is happening is because of two characters protecting their identity. These characters are Miep Gies and Mr. Kraler. Both of these characters kept the hiding place secret and provided them with food and books for entertainment. Otto Frank read and published his daughter's diary when he returned to the annex after being liberated from Auschwitz. Anne could not share the diary on her own due to the fact that she passed away from disease. She unfortunately died from disease 3 days before Bergen- Belsen, the camp she was stationed at, was liberated. Her sister, Margot, also died a few days before this occurrence from disease as well. Mr. Frank, Peter and Mr. Van Daan were separated from the women and went to Auschwitz, the labor camp. The women were placed at Bergen- Belsen, the labor camp, after only a few days in Auschwitz. Anne Frank is a girl of the age of thirteen; she is a happy, fun-loving, positive girl throughout this whole dangerous endeavor. She keeps others always aware and cautious due to her energetic being. While others may try and avoid conversations with Anne, one boy, Peter, makes a small effort to make her feel welcome. She is not only desperately searching for a friend but also trying hard to change herself for others. Anne is trying to do this without completely conforming to everyone else’s standards. Anne, in the beginning, may be perceived as a disruptive, annoying and hazardous kid. However, throughout the two year span, Anne matures into a well-
