“I hope I will be able to confide everything to you, as I have never been able to confide in anyone, and I hope you will be a great source of comfort and support.” This is a quote from Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, where Anne is trying to confide her diary, called “Kitty”, because she doesn’t have companions she can trust. The Diary of Anne Frank is 69 years old. It is the story of a young girl and her daily struggles in hiding at the time of World War Ⅱ. Her book sends a message of hope, ambition, independence and self-assurance to anyone who reads it. Anne Frank models all of these values. Everyone should read this book because it is an excellent source to learn about some of the horrible past Jews have faced. Reading this book will further prevent happenings like the Holocaust and you would understand a 14 year old in the time of 1947 very deeply. It is written by a 14 year old and also states the thoughts of Anne, who is currently discovering her place in life. It describes her opinions and her emotions on certain claims in her life. For example when her father does not like her feelings towards Peter, she still has the urge to go up to the attic and see him. Readers will interpret that teenagers weren’t as different back then when it came to their “love life”. Her entries also describe her state of sexual curiosity. Anne likes to monitor the changes in her body, and she is pretty excited when she enters puberty. For example, she monitors her height by placing marks on the wall. This writing is excellent way of comparing and contrasting today's’ teenagers versus the teenagers around 1942 and 1943. It helps us to learn how the thinking was same or different between a modern day teenager and a teenager from the 1940’s. Readers will build upon their knowledge of teens in past while reading this
