I read the book, Anne Frank, The Diary of a Young Girl written by Anne Frank, who was a young teenage girl who journals her days in hiding during the holocaust. “The first thing I put in was this diary, then hair curlers, handkerchiefs, schoolbooks, a comb, old letters; I put in the craziest things with the idea that we were going into hiding. But i’m not sorry, memories mean more to me than dresses.”(Anne Frank, 12) Anne Frank was born in Frankfurt, Germany in 1929. She was a very outgoing person who documented her thoughts and feelings in her diary. Her diary became an outlet for her when she and her family were hiding from the Nazis during World War II. Anne and her family were in hiding for two years during the war, in a small portion of the building where her father worked. While in hiding, they had to be quiet and stay hidden so they would not be arrested and sent to the concentration camps. Anne’s diary became the way for her to express herself and it meant a lot to her. She was very nervous and anxious about anyone else reading it. Growing up during the war, there was a lot more required of her. She had to help around the house, and take care of her siblings. Anne grew up in a time period of the war, having to conceal the location to save her life for several years. She experienced an age of war where she lived through poverty, hunger, fear, death, and was denied basic human rights. Her days were spent with limited food and filled with silence and darkness, all because she was hated for her Jewish culture.
