In the epic poem The Odyssey Homer tells of Odysseus’s 10 year journey home from The Trojan War and how he is cast out to sea and loses his ship and all his crew. Odysseus’s ego and curiosity led to his ship and crews destruction. this is because when odysseus goes to the cyclops island he is curious about him so he stays and loses 6 men. This proves that odysseus’s decisions have directly caused the death of his crew. It can also be said that odysseus isn’t responsible because on thrinacia his crew are the ones that ate the sun gods cattle.
When odysseus first leaves troy he lands on the land of the cicones. Odysseus treats the cicones terribly which in the end will cause him to lose several members of his crew. He destroyed their home he also took their women into slavery and killed all of the men that tried to fight. When he called all of his troops back to the shore they came but were all drunk with wine. Some of the surviving cicones went to gather the army they were trained to fight well it says

They had large flocks of sheep and tons of cheese. When odysseus lands on the island he tells his crew to remain in the ship and takes 12 of his best fighters they then hike to the cave where the cyclops polyphemus lives. When they get there they realize that the cyclops wasn't there. His warriors come up with the idea of releasing the sheep in the pen to keep the cyclops busy while they grab the food and run. But odysseus decides to do his own thing and stay this causes him to lose 6 of his best men this is evidence that odysseus is responsible already for some of his men's deaths. He then compares his men to puppies when facing the cyclops in line 233-234 “but in one stride he clutched at my companions and caught two in his hands like squirming puppies” odysseus directly caused the death of his crew which is just a little bit of the many instances that occur in this
