The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. He had total control over all of the media and the goal was to make sure that the Nazi message was positively conveyed through educational literature, books, films, radio, art, music, theater, and the press. His propaganda was aimed toward the Jews and it encouraged the message that Jews and other undesirable minorities were dangerous and bad to the Germans. It was also designed to deceive people and cover up the torture, killings and mass murder that were occurring in the concentration and labor camps. They used the propaganda to mobilize the Germans to support the war until the end of the regime. Each day the crowd grew larger trying to get their family members back. As the protests continued, the conditions the prisoners faced were not sanitary and were very overcrowded. The prisoners’ only hope was hearing the cries of the protestors outside the building. Public protests were not allowed and Joseph Goebbels felt that these protests needed to end before anti-Nazi thoughts started to spread. The Nazis tried closing the train station, firing shots into the crowd, and arresting some of the women to try to intimidate them, but the number of protesters continued to get larger. Finally, on March 6th Goebbels ordered the release of the prisoners and the return of the ones that had already been taken to the labor camp. In order to save their reputation, Goebbels put out propaganda telling a story of how the Gestapo abused its power by arresting the wrong people.
