Ancient Rome The geography of ancient Rome was critical for its expansion. Ancient Rome had a warm, mild climate (reference 1). That circumstance allowed for an agricultural boom. The major river systems that ran through Rome allowed for fertile land which helped the agriculture of ancient Rome and gave Rome the resources to conquer their enemies. The Black Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Red Sea border ancient Rome, which is one reason for the extended period of power ancient Rome had. One significant individual in ancient Rome was Julius Caesar. Even though his reign lasted only two years 46BC-44 BC, he was very influential. (reference 2) Julius Caesar came to power by allying with Marcus Licinius Crassus and Pompey. When Julies Ceaser came to power, he brought many beneficial changes such as he guaranteed to reduce Rome's debt and give property to retired soldiers. When Julius Caesar was assassinated by Brutus, it sent the empire into complete and utter chaos, which led to the rule of his adopted son. The Romans had inventions, in the modern day. One of them that we all know is roads (reference 3). Roads were essential to the Romans because they allowed efficient transportation for their soldiers and transported materials across Rome and parts of Africa, Asia, and other parts of Europe.
