Equality for people was the purpose of America becoming an independent nation, and the constitution disregards that in the case of slavery. The framers of the Constitution refer to slaves as "persons" or "persons held to labor or service. " The language use in the document implies an attempt to mask the actual cruelty/brutality of slavery. Not only were they attempting to hide the true conditions of slavery, they protected slavery by the taxed importation of slaves, as well. The framers of the constituion saw slavery as something positive in the economy, without seeing it as morally wrong.

From the time of the American Revolution in 1776, to the year 1852, there has been many causes to the opposition to slavery. Some have shown the support for increased opposition while others have shown to not support this opposition. This has caused many disputes about who is in the right. There is plenty of evidence between the two groups which were either supporting the opposition to slavery or they were not supporting the opposition. Three causes exist in support of and against this opposition: Social Darwinism, increased tolerance, and the need to unite the nation.
Therefore, freeing the slaves was not important. All men aren’t created equally as shown in these times. The belief that slavery was wrong, was not strong enough for the the Constitution to overcome. Mr. Freehling said, “The only way Africans could be free was if they were sent back to Africa”.
All people are created equal, and they deserve life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. This is stated in the Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution grants these rights to all human beings. In his editorial, “No Compromise With Slavery,” William Lloyd Garrison exposes that freedom and slavery contradict each other. Throughout the text, Garrison uses his passion for abolishing slavery to convince the readers that slavery is amoral and the work of the devil. Lloyd disputes that a country can stand for both freedom and slavery.
With slavery, you take away a person’s human right to decide how to live! This amendment was the beginning of equality, which led the way for future generations.
Slavery in the U.S. Constitution After the Unites States declared Independence from Great Britain in 1776, they greatly feared a strong national government that would be like a monarchy like the one Great Britain had. To prevent this tyrannical government from happening in the U.S., a convention of delegates from all thirteen states were brought together to create the U.S.’s first written constitution: the Articles of Confederation. This convention was called the Continental Congress. The Articles of Confederation focused on having a federal government, or a loose alliance of the states.
However there is no doubt that there are still problems associated with it. It never explicitly addresses the rights of all the people including slaves, or of women. It’s problematic that the constitution is so highly regarded and followed even when these groups of people are left out, due to the fact that it divides the society by race and sex, and if you were apart of the persecution, it was because you were seen to be inferior, and should not have the same rights of white men. All throughout history we have become keenly familiar with some of the costs of this problem such as how african americans have been persecuted for generations even after the end of slavery. Women weren’t treated any better when you look at how they couldn’t vote until the 1930’s.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness”. This quote from the Declaration of Independence means to signify the putative promises America has made to its citizens: freedom and equality. But sadly, these promises have not been kept. These lines of the Declaration of Independence are a cruel lie hanging and dangling far out of reach of many Americans. They act as an affront to many Americans, as freedom and equality are not available to most people in America.
In the Declaration of Independence, there is a famous phrase that is saying that all human are created equally and similarly—regardless of his or her race, skin color, religion etc. The phrase also implies that life, liberty and happiness are three examples of unalienable rights that are given by the Creator and should be protect by the government. Thus, it means that the rights of equality, freedom and happiness of each of individual in the United States are not given by the government, thus it cannot been taken away. However, when we try to look at what the slaves or Black Americans faced during that time and how the white people treat black people unequally, we can say that these words in the Declaration of Independence about the unalienable rights are really contradict with what has been practiced and clearly exposed the

The basis of the Declaration was based on the idea of freedom, where “all men are created equal.” However, by today’s standards, the Declaration of Independence has many controversial points. People have certain rights that cannot be taken away. This was written in our Declaration of Independence. This means everyone is equal regardless of race, ethnicity, culture or gender.
