The purpose of the Nuremburg Trials was to punish the German Nazi officers and leaders for what they did. According to the article “Nuremburg Trails”, by author William Young, “The Nuremburg Trials prosecuted political, military, and economic leaders of Germany after World War II,” (Young). This means that the trials at Nuremburg found the German political, military, and economic leaders guilty of the charges they committed before, during, and after WWII.
For the largest act of genocide did the world really learn its lesson from the Holocaust or could it continue to build up and happen again? One of the biggest and most remembered events in history could even be related to the trials; the Holocaust. Over 6 million Jews were killed during the Holocaust, yet people continue to deny that it ever happened. Some people believe that the Holocaust was completely made up by Jews to gain sympathy. Others believe that the Holocaust was exaggerated and they just can’t seem to wrap their heads around how many people actually died. Holocaust denial repudiates the truths of history and encourages anti semitism; however, there are many ways to spot and confront denial of the Holocaust.
The Holocaust was an execution of 8 million Europeans, and “ 6 million of the Europeans killed were Jewish women, children, and men that were brutally murdered” (Strahinich 7). It “was a catastrophe in our modern history” (Strahinich 7) now staining our history pages with hundreds of innocent people’s blood, forever lost in the grounds of the Holocaust. It took “place in Poland, Lithuania, Belarus, Latvia, and Czechoslovakia” (Altman 9) is some of the places where hundreds died. Thanks to “Adolf Hitler” (Strahinich 8) and “the Nazis government” (Strahinich 10), they “plunged most of Europe” (Allen 7) into turmoil, taking lives that did not need to go.
I believe that many Holocaust survivors felt like justice was not achieved because hatred still exists today and people have not really recognized the same impact that the Holocaust inflicted, among some other reasons. Sadly, jokes are made about the Holocaust and people do not take it seriously. The impact the Holocaust had on the world was extremely profound. It nearly wiped out an the entire population of a race. I believe the reason that people cannot understand the Holocaust's effect on the world is because we are simply told numbers.
The Holocaust was the killing of six million Jewish men and women including children of all ages and also many more individuals by the Nazi Germany and their partners during the time of World War II. The extermination of the Chinese was so fast and gruesome that it’s torture methods are worst then the Jewish Holocaust. The Japanese had many different ways of exterminating the Chinese. They raped them, burned them alive, tortured by needles, torn apart by dogs, decapitated, and stabbed to death with a bayonet (Unknown). At this point in the war/genocide, only rapid and overwhelming armed intervention can stop the genocide, which also at this point, nobody has because there was no time to prepare (Brook). The Chinese stated that between 380,000 - 420,000 people were killed.
The Holocaust was a horrific tragedy which started in January of 1933 and ended in May of 1945, the Holocaust was the mass murder of millions of people. The word was derived from the Greek word that meant Sacrifice to the Gods (Steele 7), also called the Shoan which is the Hebrew word for catastrophe (Steele 7). So many countries took place in this 12-year genocide, including, “Germany, Italy, Japan, Romania, Hungary, and Bulgaria, which were also known as the Axis Powers” (Steele 34). But, although there were all those countries they were all part of one larger group called the Nazis, were the ones who were killing all the different denominations of people. (Bachrach 58).
