Truman the War Hero On August 6, 1945, the first atomic bomb called Little Boy hit Hiroshima, Japan, killing thousands of people. The war hero Truman making the right decision, ended the war with Japan leading to an American victory. Truman made the right decision because the U.S. did not want to lose anymore troops, Japan would refuse to surrender, and waste of money for America. To begin, Truman made the right decision to drop the atomic bomb on Japan because he did not want to lose any more American troops. The United States has lost 416,800 military troops (Research). The Japanese would not surrender like the U.S. wanted them to. The U.S. dropped conventional bombs on Tokyo hoping the Japanese would surrender; however, the Japanese did not surrender. The U.S. then needed to make a decision on ending the or sending troops over to continue fighting. Truman had to make the hardest decision of his life and decided to end the war by dropping Little Boy. The Japanese military was weak and did not have a good chance of winning the war, but that did not stop them from surrendering. “After the Hiroshima attack, a faction of Japan’s supreme war council favored acceptance of the Potsdam Declaration, but the majority resisted unconditional surrender” (Japan Surrenders). The Japanese wanted to fight until death. The U.S. dropped bombs in Tokyo killing thousands of people and almost destroying the whole city. The U.S. was surprised they did not give up.
