Chemical compounds that are available to determine are CaCO3, CaCl2, Ca(NO3)2, mgCl2, MgSO4, KCl, HCl, HC2H3O2, KNO3, K2SO4, NaC2H3O2, Na2CO3, NaCl, Na2SO4, HNO3, H2SO4, HNO3, H2SO4, NH4Cl, (NH4)2SO4, K2CO3, 0.1 M AgNO3, 0.2 M BaCl, Mg(s), NaOH, and KOH. To start this experiment, start with the flame test by gathering a Bunsen burner and a Nichrome wire. Connect the Bunsen burner with a rubber tube to a laboratory gas. To prepare solutions for the flame test, weigh out 0.205 gram of Unknown Compound using an analytical balance and mixed it into a 140 mL beaker filled with 20 mL ionized water. Ensure that solid is completely dissolved using a stirring rod.
Alka-Seltzer is a medical drug that works as a pain reliever and an antacid. The pain reliever used is aspirin and the antacid used is baking soda. When sodium bicarbonate dissolves in water it splits apart into sodium and bicarbonate ions. The bicarbonates reacts with hydrogen ions from citric acid to form carbon dioxide gas and water. This is how the bubbles are made.
Introduction Alka-Seltzer has been on the market since 1931 and has helped to relieve indigestion and upset stomach. The tablets began to fizz and bubble when dropped into water. “The fizziness happens when baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and citric acid react chemically in water. They yield sodium citrate, water and carbon dioxide gas, which causes bubbles.” Based on this information, we will measure the reaction time of AlKa- Seltzer dissolved in 200 ml of water at 3 different tempertures in the first portion of this experiment.
Tyler White CHEM151LL 32658 04/01/2018 Different Types Chemical Reaction Types and Equations Purpose: The purpose of this lab experiment is to examine different types of chemical reactions such as Decomposition reaction, Synthesis reactions, Combustion reactions, and different Chemical equations. The experiments were conducted online using Late Nite Labs. Materials: Because the experiments were conducted online there wasn’t any physical use of materials, only digital ones, for these labs to be performed. Only the registration for the website was needed to perform these online labs, as well as a desktop computer.
If I had a household product labeled sodium bicarbonate, I would add an acidic substance and expect bubble to be created. As we know acid reacts with bubbles when combined with sodium bicarbonate. 2. each paper remained it's original color, thus concluding that the unknown was neutral. These results also led the students to believe the unknown was CaCl2 since it was listed in the neutral column. After the litmus test was conducted the students added a few drops of Na3PO4 to the unknown. When these two were combined a precipitate was formed. This final test on unknown F verified that it was CaCl2.
Baking soda and citric acid mixed when dropped in the water, which causes a chemical reaction to happen. There are multiple components that make an alka-seltzer dissolve.
As the water was added to the heated sample, the solid copper chloride began to dissolve into a pretty blue-green solution, as a result of the compound breaking apart into individual Cu2+ and Cl- ions. When the water was first mixed with the copper chloride, it dissolved the solid pretty slowly, turning into a sort of mush at first. However, eventually, the water dissolved all of the solid copper chloride and the solution was homogenous. Since the compound just changed physical form, from solid to liquid, this change was purely physical. Just as in the first part of the experiment, the chemical character of the compound was not altered, so the compound did not experience a chemical change.
The tablets have 3 main ingredients: aspirin (salicylic acid), sodium bicarbonate, and citric acid. When the Alka-Seltzer
The soda water will be stored in 5 different temperatures : 5℃, 15℃, 25℃, 35℃, and 45. The desired temperatures will be achieved by using the water bath and refrigerator. I chose phenolphthalein as the indicator, because it is commonly used for titration and is a weak acid. Phenolphthalein is usually used when the solution is strong base and weak acid. When it is added into an acidic solution, the solution will be colourless; when it is added into an alkaline solution, the solution will turn pink.
Mika Nijhawan 9/29- 10/10 2 MENTOS AND SODA LAB REPORT State the Problem Does the type of soda affect the size of the explosion, after mentos are added? Develop a Hypothesis If seven mentos to a 2L bottle of Diet Pepsi, then it will create the biggest geyser out of Coke, Fanta, & Root Beer because Diet Pepsi has potassium benzoate, aspartame, and the carbonation which react to mentos. Design an Experiment Materials List: 1 clear test tube 35 original flavored Mentos candies (2 1/2 rolls) 1 3x5 index card 4 2L bottles of soda (all different flavors/types) 1 2L bottle of soda water 1 100 mL graduated cylinder 1 400 mL beaker 1 pair of tweezers (preferably large) 1 small container Procedure: Stack seven mentos in the test tube When given permission take the test tube, soda bottles, index cards, and the remaining 25 mentos, to the designated area Place one of the four soda bottles on a flat area Open the soda bottle and place the 3x5 index card over it With the index card over the soda bottle, flip the test tube over and place it on the index card, so the test tube is lined with
I predict that the more baking powder added to the vinegar, the more reaction will take place causing for more gas to be produced per 10 seconds. There will be a gradual decrease in difference between volume in gas per 10 seconds over the duration of time. I predict that the more baking powder is added, the more gas will be produced because there is more vinegar to react with baking powder The chemical name for baking powder is sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) and vinegar is acetic acid
Then the balloon is lifted up so that the baking soda runs into bottle to react with the vinegar inside. Immediately the balloon is inflated by the carbon dioxide formed. The baking soda is kept constant when the experiment is repeated for another different amount of vinegar. Results/Findings When sodium bicarbonate and vinegar mix,
The wax melted first, followed by the salt, and lastly the sugar. The salt not only burned before the sugar, but developed a brown color throughout most of the substance at a faster pace. In the water solubility test, the salt dissolved in the water, as soon as it was properly mixed and the sugar dissolved in the water as well, but was stirred for a longer period of time until it was completely dissolved. The wax did not dissolve in the water, however bits of the substance broke off from the main piece. With this information, the final results included: wax as a nonpolar covalent compound, since the substance melted first and was not soluble in water; salt as a polar covalent compound, since the substance was soluble in water and the second to melt; and sugar as an ionic compound because the substance melted last and was soluble in
Dr.Pepper is a better soda brand than Coca Cola, because it has less caffeine and better flavors than Coke. Some people agree that Dr.Pepper has more sugar and doesn’t taste nothing like Coke. While others disagree that Coca Cola is a better Beverage. Because if you drank Dr.Pepper you can easily taste a bit of cherry in your mouth having your mouth smell like cherries. According to Debate.org an Investigator RacH3ll3 had mention that Dr.Pepper is a better drink stated,” Dr. Pepper taste better also it has less acid than coca cola.
